From November 28 to 30, 2023, the III Young Scientists Congress was held in the Sirius Science and Art Park (Sochi), which included exhibitions of the Russian scientific and technological achievements, lectures, discussions, and other events.
Within the “Women in Science Without Borders” session, the outstanding female scientists in the system of organizing science and scientific research were highlighted, including the LIMU founder and director, D.Sc., Associate Professor, Vera A. Khokhlova!
Specifically, the committee highlighted the Russian Science Foundation grant successfully completed under the leadership of Vera A. Khokhlova, titled “Physical foundations and development of powerful focusing ultrasound transducers for medical use in shock wave ablation of heterogeneous soft tissues.”
Excerpts about the grant from the event booklet:
- Scientists have developed a new method of using ultrasound in non-invasive surgery.
- One of the most promising methods of non-invasive surgery is high-intensity focused ultrasound. Previously, this method was used to ablate tissues through heating up to temperatures of thermal necrosis. Scientists from Lomonosov Moscow State University, together with American partners, have developed an alternative and much safer approach.
We sincerely congratulate Vera A. Khokhlova and wish her further successful scientific projects and no less successful students and followers!
